Early September evenings partying in downtown Halifax are part of the unofficial rites of the academic year. There may be some shared anticipation of the freedoms and social pleasures of the year ahead. The large number of young men and women gathered in the bars and taverns of the downtown also contributes to an atmosphere where inhibitions are relaxed. Those nights do not always end well.
